National Post/Bloomberg: U.S. says it has recovered bodies from plane crash site after Afghan troops battled Taliban for access
The Taliban claimed it had shot the aircraft down, while the U.S. denied the plane was hit by hostile fire
The United States on Tuesday recovered the remains of two U.S. service members from a military aircraft that crashed in Afghanistan and was in the process of confirming their identities, a U.S. defence official said.
The U.S. military has said an E-11A aircraft crashed in the province of Ghazni, but has disputed Taliban claims to have brought it down. It has not been confirmed exactly how many people may have been on board the craft.
“While the cause of crash is under investigation, there are no indications the crash was caused by enemy fire,” U.S. Colonel Sonny Leggett said in a statement. “Taliban claims that additional aircraft have crashed are false.”
