World Health Organization Director Bows To International Demands For An Independent Review Of Its Response To The Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic

DW: WHO: 'Independent evaluation' of pandemic response will follow

In a video address, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the coronavirus crisis would be overcome if the world works together. The WHO director said the group would investigate its pandemic response as soon as possible.

The European Union called for an "impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation" of the global response to coronavirus, during the World Health Organization’s (WHO) first-ever virtual World Health Assembly on Monday afternoon.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanon Ghebreysus said the meeting was "one of the most important since we were founded in 1948," as the health agency has garnered widespread attention over its handling of the pandemic which has infected more than 4.7 million people and killed over 315,000.

He has been resisting such a review, but with over 100 countries now demanding an investigation and a review on why the World Health Organization was slow to respond to the pandemic, he had to acquiesce .... More than 110 countries are backing a motion for WHO to investigate the origins of the coronavirus outbreak, despite China's objections (Business Insider). The key now is to make sure that the people who are charged with the responsibility of conducting this review are truly independent, and have no ties to the leadership of the World Health Organization.
