Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov has declared a state of emergency in Bishkek just hours after saying he was prepared to resign.
Anti-government protests have left hundreds injured. Kyrgyzstan's president, Sooronbai Jeenbekov, declared a state of emergency in the capital, Bishkek, on Friday and ordered troops to take to the streets to restore order.
The announcement came as large rallies gathered on Friday in the fifth consecutive day of protests. Fist fights broke out between rival factions and gunshots were fired into the air, according to an AFP correspondent on the scene. Key leaders were evacuated from the area.
