 * Exit polls indicate that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies fell short of the parliamentary majority required to form a new government 
 * Opposition parties seeking to unite to unseat the long-serving prime minister have also failed to secure a majority, the polls suggest 
 * The election was seen as a referendum on Netanyahu's polarizing leadership Israel's elections have resulted in a virtual deadlock for the fourth time in the past two years, exit polls suggest. 

The inconclusive results leave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with an uncertain future as he pleads with opponents to help him form a majority government and avoid a fifth election. 

The exit polls on Israel's three main TV stations indicated that both Netanyahu and his religious and nationalist allies, along with a group of anti-Netanyahu parties, fell short of the parliamentary majority required to form a new government.
