Ukraine's Top General Says The Expected Mission From The Current Counteroffensive Is 'Not Feasible At All' With The Weapons His Army Has Now

Ukraine’s top general, Valery Zaluzhny, wants shells, planes and patience

Washington Post: Ukraine's top general, Valery Zaluzhny, wants shells, planes and patience

KYIV, Ukraine — For Ukraine’s counteroffensive to progress faster, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, the top officer in Ukraine’s armed forces, says he needs more — of every weapon.

And he is telling anyone who will listen, including his American counterpart, Gen. Mark A. Milley, as recently as Wednesday, that he needs those resources now.

In a rare, wide-ranging interview with The Washington Post, Zaluzhny expressed frustration that while his biggest Western backers would never launch an offensive without air superiority, Ukraine still has not received modern fighter jets but is expected to rapidly take back territory from the occupying Russians.

American-made F-16s, promised only recently, are not likely to arrive until the fall — in a best-case scenario.

WNU Editor: Wow!!!! Ukraine General Valery Zaluzhny is clearly frustrated with Western support for the war, and he is angry with how the counteroffensive is going. He is saying exactly what this blog has been saying and predicting these past few months on how much of a catastrophe this counteroffensive will be for Ukraine. That you cannot succeed in an offensive against heavily fortified positions where the enemy also has the advantage in manpower and trained soldiers, firepower, logistics, and air supremacy.

There is one thing that General Zaluzhny omitted in his interview with the Washington Post and that is his lack of trained men. No one expected the Russian military to adopt a strategy of attrition warfare, but they did, and after 16 months of heavy fighting they have obliterated most of Ukraine's top combat soldiers.

And it is getting worse. I know from my own personal sources within Ukraine that the new soldiers that are now being called up/mobilized are not getting anywhere near the training that they need. In some cases only a few weeks.

This is completely opposite to what Russia is doing. The 300,000+ plus Russian reservists that were called up in September of last year and the 120,000+ who have volunteered since the beginning of this year are still in training, and will be for the next few months.
